Your Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost?2020-08-11T22:46:17+00:00

Each conversion is different but you can get an idea from our loft conversion page here (link)

How do I know if my property is suitable for a conversion?2020-08-10T14:13:30+00:00

Generally speaking as long as you have 2.1m height in your loft a conversion should be possible. We offer a free visit to your property and can determine this for you at that time.

Does Doorstep Carpentry do the design plans?2020-08-10T14:13:20+00:00

Doorstep Carpentry works closely with a specialised architect for loft conversions. We can work with you to achieve the design of your choice.

Can I see a completed conversion or work in progress?2020-08-10T14:13:08+00:00

Yes. Dependent on the homeowner’s permission, we would be happy to show you a completed Doorstep Carpentry project or visit a site nearing completion.

What about planning submissions or building regulations?2020-08-10T14:12:55+00:00

Under new regulations that came into effect from 1 October 2008 a loft conversion for your house is likely to be considered under “permitted development” which will not require Planning Permission. This is subject to certain limits and conditions. We can advise you on our initial visit.

When could you start the conversion?2020-08-10T14:12:23+00:00

Dependent on our current commitments, we can advise the commencement date on our initial visit.

As it will take time to draw the plans and get the council regulations agreement to commence, this generally allows time to book in a definite start date for you.

Is the work guaranteed?2020-08-10T14:11:56+00:00

We give a two year guarantee for the main structural elements and all our sub-contractors workmanship. Materials are covered under the manufacturer’s guarantee.

Is the work insured?2020-08-10T14:11:46+00:00

The work is fully insured under our public and personal liability insurance. We can provide you with a copy of the document should you require.
